N 33′ 45.567’/ W 078′ 48.050′ Osprey Marina, Myrtle Beach, SC

Beautiful sunrise at Graham Creek

Hauled anchor @ 7:25 a.m.  Windlass resisted its job of pulling up the anchor so Luke had to pull 70 feet of chain plus 44 lbs. of anchor.  Got my workout this a.m.  Sunny, 21 kts. from east.  Current against us all day.  Slowed cruising speed from 8 kts. to 6.8 kts.  Beautiful day with much scenery to see.

Seagulls following Lesser Light

Many seagulls tailing us as we kicked up fish in our wake.

Interesting Trees

Several dolphins diving under tug.  Spoke to a New Hampshire couple over radio at length as we passed their sailboat.  They’ve been living aboard full-time five yrs.  They winter in the Bahamas and summers in Ct. at New London or Mystic.

Rollicky river crossing

Crossed the Santee R. with current abeam of starboard side which made for a rollicky crossing. Then the current was astern pushing us to 8.5 kts. without any more throttle.  Waves on the Winyah R. from the Atlantic enabled us to pretend to be California surfers .  We noticed more pine trees all the way.

A tree hit by lightning

Stopped at Georgetown to take on diesel as I didn’t want to trust the fuel gauge and run out before reaching Osprey Landing Marina. Passed thru Waccamaw R. at confluence of four bodies of water:  Sampit R., Waccamaw R., Winyah Bay & Great Pee Dee R.  Beautiful Waccamaw RiverArrived at Osprey at 5 p.m. It’s a quaint, peaceful marina which is known as the local hurricane hole.  Took on 133 gal. of diesel to top off tank.  Had a wonderful dinner of chicken, vegetables & rice.  A long 10 hrs on waterway today.  We washed down tug, did a pump-out, a load of laundry, had some ice cream and called it a day.  May hang here Sat. as weather window doesn’t look appealing.

  1. The picture of the orange sunset was awesome. I hope I didn’t jinx the anchor motor when I asked how it was doing a week or so ago. It helps when your the muscle man in the family when u need to raise up 40 lbs. Being in the Navy must have helped to developed your excellent nautical vocabulary. The Ct. River is very high. The parking lot on the Glas. side is flooded. The water is all the way up to Art Hales home where mom and dad played cards and we are expecting more rain this w/e. Keep safe and chugging along.

  2. Hello Tuggers Is it Mr. or Mrs. giving us the hi tech.nautical stuff?Luke ,I think you have to reset the circuit breaker on your windlass for it draws a lot of current.I’m sure it in the owners manual. Why am i telling you this when i know your smart enough to figure it out for yourself. STAY SAFE A&J
